Red-Bellied Piranha
Client: School Project
This a flyer design created as an assignment in my Graphic design 2: Typography class in November of 2022 for the Huston Zoo. My class all had to select an animal of our choosing to design a flyer for that would appeal to children ages 7-10 years old. I selected type faces that were large and legible, colors that were vibrant and a positioning of the Piranha where the bright colors and gradients could be seen clearly. The black embellishments in the top-right and bottom left corners were cut out to give the effect of a Piranha bite which I believed would be a fun detail for the kids who picked it up.
Reflection on the Piece: As someone who had previously practiced illustration through traditional medias when the work was produced, I still believe that this piece is successful. I had learned a lot about the Illustrator program, beyond the simple pen and pencil tool. I was able to create patterns, gradients, and further develop my practice with color theory and poster design.
